TITLE: 4-H Invitational Sheep Show winners

Twenty-seven members from sheep clubs in Hunterdon, Somerset and Warren counties exhibited a total of 65 animals at the Hunterdon County 4-H & Agricultural Fair. The judge for the show was Ron Miller from Bernville, PA. The results of the classes were as follows: Champion Rams: Polled Dorset – a spring ram lamb exhibited by Kara Riccioni of Frenchtown; Hampshire – a yearling ram lamb exhibited by Andrew Sheneman of Flemington; Katahdin – a ram lamb exhibited by Kristi Philipsheck of Bridgewater. Lincoln – a ram lamb exhibited by Laila Shehab of Hopewell; Southdown – a ram lamb exhibited by Gabby Tovar of Pittstown; Romney – a ram lamb exhibited by Bill McTeigue of Stockton; Tunis – a ram lamb exhibited by Katherine Horner of Lambertville; and Natural Colored – a ram lamb exhibited by Lauren Fox of Branchburg. Champion Ewes: Border Leicester – a aged ewe exhibited by Marne Vernon of Stockton; Polled Dorset – a yearling ewe exhibited by Kara Riccioni of Frenchtown; Hampshire – a yearling ewe exhibited by Andrew Sheneman of Flemington; Lincoln – a yearling ewe exhibited by Badia Shehab of Hopewell; Natural Colored – a yearling ewe exhibited by Kara Riccioni; Suffolk – a ewe lamb exhibited by Gabby Tovar of Pittstown; Romney – a yearling ewe exhibited by Emma Vernon of Stockton; Southdown – a yearling ewe exhibited by Gabby Tovar of Pittstown; Tunis – a yearling ewe exhibited by Nick Horner of Lambertville. Champion meat grade ram of the show went to Brittany Smith of Oxford; Washington; the champion grade ewe of the show went to Courtney Sodtalbers of Washington; and the champion grade wool ewe of the show was exhibited by Jessica Ryan of Ringoes. Special awards went to the following individuals: Gabby Tovar of Pittstown received the following special awards: She received the award for the best Southdown of the show given by Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Natale of Whitehouse Station on her Southdown yearling ewe; she also received the award for the best bred and owned meat breed animal of the show given by the Garden State Sheep Breeders Association. Kara Riccioni of Frenchtown exhibited the best registered Dorset of the show with her Dorset yearling ewe. This award was given by Becky Black of Bound Brook. Kara also received the award for the highest placing wool breed animal of the show with her natural colored yearling ewe. This award was presented by The Spinnery of Frenchtown. This same natural colored yearling ewe was recognized as the best bred and owned wool breed animal of the show. This award was presented by the Garden State Sheep Breeders Association. Finally, this natural colored yearling ewe received the award given by TD Bank, Flemington, for the best bred and owned of the show. Andrew Sheneman’s Hampshire yearling ewe received the award presented by the New Jersey Hampshire Sheep Breeders for the best registered Hampshire of the show. Katherine Horner received an award given by RQL Farms of Hillsborough on her Tunis yearling ram for the highest placing Tunis in show. The Christy family of Whitehouse Station presented an award to Jessica Ryan of Ringoes for the best grade animal of the show. An award for the highest placing Suffolk grade ewe of the show given by Ron & Eva Torok of Pittstown went to Courtney Sodtalbers of Washington on her yearling Suffolk grade ewe. Showmanship awards went to the following 4-H’ers: The best beginner showman award was presented by Mr. & Mrs. John Peck of Pittstown to Jessica Ryan of Ringoes; The award given by the Hunterdon County 4-H Sheep for the best Novice Showman went to Laila Shehab of Hopewell; Marne Vernon of Stockton received the intermediate showman award given by Mr. & Mrs. Hank Kuehn of Center Valley, PA, and the best advanced showmanship award given by Mr. & Mrs. Richard Quattrock of Reading, PA went to Gabby Tovar of Pittstown. Rich Granja of Bridgewater participated in the show as a 4-h Cloverbud member. The top five best fitted animals in the meat breed class were exhibited by Kara Riccioni, Kathleen Horner, Nick Horner, Gabby Tovar and Christian Mirabito. In the wool breed division the top five fitted animals were exhibited by Kristi Philipsheck, Angela Philipsheck, Lauren Fox, Jessica Ryan and Kara Riccioni. A two-person team-showmanship class followed the breeding show. Results are as follows: Junior Division – Brittany Smith of Oxford and Jessica Ryan of Ringoes; and Senior Division – Kara Riccioni of Frenchtown and Marne Vernon of Stockton.
