TITLE: HUNTERDON COUNTY SCARY MOMENT MAN in Barricade Situation with multiple weapons thankfully ends peacefully

On Friday, August 27, at approximately 5:45 pm, officers responded to a Pinehurst Circle residence, off of West Gate Drive in the Beaver Brook Development, for a report of an intoxicated and despondent man who had gone into his basement with a loaded handgun.  The man was reported to have been drinking alcoholic beverages all day and a family member, knowing that he was depressed, hid his handgun.  The man then located his handgun, went into the basement, and told the family member not to call anyone.  Several other guns, including a shotgun, were reported to be in the house.

Officers surrounded the man’s home while Clinton Township police officer Joseph SanGiovanni spoke with the man via cell phone.  Although the two spoke on the phone off and on for nearly two hours, the man refused to come out of his residence.

Nearby residents, many of whom were returning home from work, were cooperative and remained at a distance from the area.

The Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office and the Hunterdon County S.W.A.T. Team responded and assumed command of the incident.  At approximately 8:00 pm, the man emerged from his residence unarmed and cooperative.  The Clinton Rescue Squad transported the man to the Hunterdon Medical Center for evaluation.  No one was injured in this incident.

The Town of Clinton Police Department also assisted.
