Governor Jon S. Corzine today named Shawn Sheekey Acting Administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicles Commission (MVC), replacing Sharon A. Harrington, who was recently appointed to the New Jersey Casino Control Commission. Sheekey has served as Deputy Chief Administrator of MVC since 2002.
"Shawn Sheekey has been an integral part of the historic reforms that have occurred at the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission," said Governor Corzine. "I am confident that he will continue to move the agency forward and build upon its many accomplishments."
As Deputy Chief Administrator, Mr. Sheekey was instrumental in the historic overhaul of motor vehicle services in New Jersey beginning with the Fix DMV initiative and the subsequent New Jersey Motor Vehicle Security & Customer Service Act of 2003.
"I look forward to continuing the positive progress that our great MVC team has made since the Commission's formation in 2003," said Sheekey. "I appreciate Governor Corzine's confidence in me. He has been a strong advocate of our efforts to reform of motor vehicle services and provide greater security, service and safety to our customers."
Among the many reforms Sheekey has overseen are the successful launch of New Jersey's first state-of-the-art Digital Driver License (DDL) and 6 Point ID Verification System, introduction of comprehensive employee document fraud and customer service training and the deprivatization of more than 40 motor vehicle agencies with over 600 employees.
In addition, Sheekey has helped to introduce a number of initiatives focused on enhancing the organization's core services and improving its operations in the areas of service, security and safety.
