A child who was abducted by his father was
rescued by U.S. Marshals, Delaware State Police and Mount Laurel, NJ police.
This kidnapping triggered an amber alert for much of Saturday. Zion Duprey,
5 was found at the Westin Hotel in Mount Laurel, NJ early Tuesday morning.
Zion Duprey was abducted by his father, Angel Duprey, about 12:30 p.m. on
Saturday, June 27 from his home in Lincoln, Del. The boy’s mother had a
protection from abuse order against Angel Duprey prohibiting him from having
any contact with her and her children.
Detectives from the Delaware State Police obtained warrants for kidnapping and other related charges for Angel D. Duprey, 30, of 3948 Howland Street, Philadelphia, PA. U.S. Marshals were working closely with detectives from the Delaware State Police in trying to locate the young child. U.S. Marshals received information that Angel Duprey may be in a hotel in Mt. Laurel, NJ. Just after midnight, Marshals started to canvass the area hotels along Rt. 73 in Mt. Laurel. Deputies confirmed Angel Duprey and several children were in a room at the Westin Hotel. U.S. Marshals and Mount Laurel Police entered the room around 1:30 a.m. and saw Angel Duprey and a female using illegal drugs in the bathroom. There were three children including Zion sleeping in a bed in the hotel room. Angel Duprey and the female were arrested by Mt. Laurel Police for drug charges. Angel was also arrested for interference with custody and being a fugitive from Delaware. Angel Duprey is in custody in Burlington County pending the drug charges as well as being a fugitive from Delaware. Zion was taken back to Delaware by the Delaware State Police to be reunited with his mother. The two other children were turned over to the NJ Division of Family Services. |
