Wanted: Children with inventive minds and creative ideas to take apart old appliances, travel the world, make games and spend a week having the time of their lives!
Camp Invention, a week long summer day camp, is being offered at Francis A. Desmares School this summer. Camp will be held June 23-27, 2008 (M-F) from 8:30am to 3:00pm. The Camp InventionÒ program focuses on eco-friendly activities and powerful projects that enhance creativity, teamwork, and inventive-thinking skills. This exciting camp gives elementary students the opportunity to spend a week “learning to love learning” as they play their way through inventive, hands on activities that emphasize science, art, history and fun. Camp Invention has been offered for the last several years through a partnership with the National Inventors Hall of Fame, Foundation and the Flemington Raritan School District.
Camp will be directed by Joey Jurick, a teacher at Desmares School. All classes are taught by district teachers who will lead a series of engaging and inspiring workshops on a variety of topics. This year classes include, M.A.R.S. (Moving at Rocket Speed) where participants will plan and execute a trip to Mars, becoming the first astronauts to explore the planet. In Art Park, participants will attempt to save a museum from the threat of losing donations by designing a new sculpture garden to please the public and the museum’s largest donor. During Saving Sludge City, the Camp Invention team will rebuild and clean a polluted city, making it a more eco-friendly environment for its residents. All workshops are hands on and are filled with educational and fun activities.
Camp Invention is open to all children who are currently in grades K-5. The registration fee is $205. There is a $20 “Bring a Buddy” discount available for two or more students registering together. Registration includes all activities, supplies, T-shirts and snacks. Enrollment is on a “first come first serve” basis with a limit of 110 students.
