HUNTERDON COUNTY - The Freeholder Board yesterday approved the following -
RESOLUTION - Authorizing Capital Ordinance No. 15-07, for the construction of a clubhouse at the Heron Glen Golf Course, in the amount of $2,300,000.00, be rescinded.
What this means basically is that a shift from ex freeholder Director Muller to newly elected Freeholder Mennen has killed the project.
Freeholder Melick has been a long time anti golf course basher and has been looking for a reason to strike back against the group that built the course in the first place when he and then freeholder Karrow were against the project.
Freeholder Holt asked the board to keep an open mind regarding the building of a new facility as the board moved ahead in 2008 and though the other freeholders gave him lip service on the matter it was clear that the project was dead when newly appointed Freeholder Director Peterson suggested that cosmetic fixes such as new flooring and a fix of a leak or two were probably sufficient to support the golf courses needs. Peterson also brought up the problem of getting water allocation to service a new clubhouse as a reason to put the project on hold.
The previous Freeholder Board had grandiose plans of opening a clubhouse that could serve as a banquet hall/ wedding reception venue. At that time the HC NEWS suggested that this was pure socialism and that using taxpayer money to compete against local business owners was not what the free market system was designed to do.
