HUNTERDON COUNTY - County Administrator Yard told Freeholder Director Peterson yesterday that the small cities grant process is finally falling into line even though the county gave up available funds for 2008.

According to Yard, "the county took over this small cities grant process from the municipalities last July and as of this point we have 15 applicants, 11 of which are certified and have been interviewed. We are now doing cost estimates on these properties and have filed a letter of extension with the DCA."

According to point man Alan Johnson "A lot of senior citizens who have spent many years in Hunterdon County have seen the growing affluence pass them by and this program allows them the possibility of rehabilitating their homes which may have fallen into disrepair."

Yard stated that the county will spend all of their allotted 2007 funds by June but missed on a chance to use 2008's money because the county took over the program at to late a time to make the deadlines and spend the money.
