HC - The county freeholder board passed a temporary budget that doesn't appear to allow the sheriffs department to swell as large as the newly elected sheriff would appreciate. The freeholder board controls the purse strings for the sheriffs department but cannot tell the sheriff how to spend the cash. The sheriff wanted to add staff to the payroll - don't remember that in the pre primary election promises where everyone was promising to tighten the ship - and the freeholders are balking to increases. New Freeholder Director Peterson is serving as the point man to keep this out of the judiciary's hand.
