NEW HOPE, Pa. – To help meet a growing demand for more Jewish education, Kehilat HaNahar, the Little Shul by the River, will offer three adult education courses this winter.  Beginning in February, the Shul will offer courses in Beginning Hebrew, Modern/Conversational Hebrew, and Jewish Immersion.

In an intensive six-week Beginning Hebrew course, adults will learn the Hebrew Alef-Bet (alphabet), and how to read basic Hebrew.  The course will run for six consecutive weeks beginning on Feb. 6 at 6 p.m.
Adults who want to take their Hebrew to the next level can enroll in the Modern/Conversational Hebrew class.  The class will meet six times every other week beginning Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m.

Back by popular demand, Kehilat HaNahar’s Jewish Immersion Class will offer adults the opportunity to delve into the many aspects of Judaism.  Topics may include communal and personal prayer, ritual objects, and philosophy of the various periods in the evolution of Judaism, among others.   This course will offer plenty of time for questions and discussion.  It is appropriate for people wishing to convert to Judaism, for those wishing to learn more about Judaism, and for Jews who simply want to deepen their understanding of Judaism.  The class will meet six times every other week beginning Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m.

“Adult education is a crucial component of Kehilat HaNahar,” said Rabbi Sandy Roth.  “We are a diverse congregation committed to respecting, learning about and understanding our traditions and heritage, and striving to give them meaning and relevance today.  The three courses we’re offering this winter will help fulfill the congregation’s mission in this area.”

Each of these courses costs $65 for members of Kehilat HaNahar and $95 for non-members.  There also is a small materials fee for the Modern/Conversational Hebrew Course.  To enroll, please contact Kehilat HaNahar at 215-862-1912 or littleshul@kehilathanahar.org prior to Jan. 30.  Space is limited.

Kehilat HaNahar is a Reconstructionist Synagogue in the heart of New Hope.  In addition to traditional weekly Shabbat services, Rabbi Sandy Roth leads monthly family, children’s, meditation and musical services, as well as a host of continuing education programs, and a rich Shul school curriculum.  For membership information, program details or directions, contact 215-862-1912, or visit www.kehilathanahar.org.
