Michael Palmer, M.D., 12-time New York Times bestselling author will be at the Clinton Book Shop, Wednesday February 20th from 7 to 9pm, reading from and signing copies of his newest medical thriller, The First Patient. His previous book, The Fifth Vial, is now on the New York Times mass market fiction bestseller list for a fourth week. He has written more than twelve novels and they have been translated into 35 languages. Having trained in internal medicine at Boston City and Massachusetts General Hospitals, he spent twenty years as a full-time practitioner of internal and emergency medicine, and is now an associate director of Massachusetts Medical Society's physician health program.

In The First Patient, Michael Palmer has created his most high-concept thriller yet. He delivers a novel at the crossroads of presidential politics and cutting-edge medicine. Palmer says, "The First Patient, dealing with presidential morbidity, the Twenty-fifth Amendment, and nanotechnology, is a thiller worthy of the name, with more twists and turns than in any book I've witten so far, and an ending that is a jaw-dropper."

Gabe Singleton and Andrew Stoddard were roommates at the Naval Academy in Annapolis years ago. Nowadays, Gabe is a country doctor and his friend Andrew has gone from war hero to governor to President of the United States. One quiet day, helicopters land on Gabe's lawn and out of them strides his old friend. The president's physician has suddenly disappeared and he needs Gabe to take his place. Gabe agrees, but not until he is in the White House does he realize that strong evidence has been kept from him that the president is going insane. Facing a crisis of conscience surrounding presidential illness and Twenty-fifth Amendment, Gabe discovers that his friend's condition may not be of natural causes. The president's life is at stake. The safety of the world is in jeopardy and Gabe must find the answers while the clock is ticking.

"The First Patient is an exciting thriller that is full of surprises and captures the intense atmosphere of the White House, how the medical system works, and how the Twenty-fifth Amendment could be brought into play. I thoroughly enjoyed it" says President Bill Clinton. Publishers Weekly calls The First Patient an "endless entertaining thriller with a roller-coaster ride of a plot that builds to an undeniably shocking conclusion." "Dr. Palmer has written an incredibly realistic, frightening thriller that is every White House doctor's nightmare", declares Dr. E. Connie Marianno, White House Physician 1992-2001.
