HUNTERDON COUNTY - Yes Shumi is a bit hard to find and you do have to go through the photo studio and around the back to find the well tucked bar, but once you make the effort you know this is the best spot for fresh fish in the area. Now if you are looking for all sorts of goofy rolls and a romantic night out this is not your place. Shumi is for people who are serious about eating sushi delights and they make no bones about it. You won't be surprised as a first timer if you are seated at the bar with people who are on a first name basis with Chef Ike. People who go once, keep coming back.

Sit at the 8 seat sushi bar if you can get a seat there and ask Ike to take you on a Sushi filled adventure, he's more than happy to oblige and to treat you to specials like sea trout carpaccio dripped with olive oil and balsamic, or a nice slice of Toro that will melt in you mouth and make you think you are in an epicurean fish bowl of heaven.

The food here is wonderful - plain and simple. We took a first time sushi eater here who claimed he didn't like raw fish, an old dog refusing new tricks, and by the time the meal was over the tune had changed and the man now eats sushi once a week minimum with Ike as his host.

 We give Shumi  the highest  HC NEWS RATING - Reservations are a smart idea because even though it’s a hidden gem, the super sushi eating monsters are all aware of this local hot spot.
