The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 2-1 in front of 6,113 fans at Citibank Park on Tuesday evening.

Somerset broke a scoreless tie with a run in the top of the seventh inning to take a 1-0 lead when first baseman Vito Chiaravalloti crushed a two out solo home run (16) to right.

Long Island rallied for two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a 2-1 lead. Centerfield Nook Logan led off with a single to left, advanced to third on a stolen base and a wild pitch and came around to score on a RBI single to left by third baseman Edgardo Alfonzo. First baseman Pete Rose Jr. then followed with a RBI double to right that scored pinch runner Damian Rolls from first.

Ducks’ reliever Ben Grezlovski (4-2) picked up the win, throwing a scoreless inning allowing only one hit. Patriots’ reliever Jason Ricardson (8-1) suffered the loss, allowing two runs on two hits without recording an out. Ducks reliever Charlie Weatherby pitched a scoreless ninth for his second save of the year.

With the loss the Patriots dropped to 17-20 in the second half and 57-50 overall on 2008 season while the Ducks improved to 24-13 and 56-51.
