The
Long Island Ducks defeated the
Somerset Patriots 2-1 in front of 6,113 fans at
Citibank Park on Tuesday evening.
Somerset broke a scoreless tie with a run in
the top of the seventh inning to take a 1-0 lead when first baseman Vito
Chiaravalloti crushed a two out solo home run (16) to right.
Long Island rallied for two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to
take a 2-1 lead. Centerfield Nook Logan led
off with a single to left, advanced to third on a
stolen base and a wild pitch and came
around to score on a RBI single to left by third
baseman Edgardo Alfonzo. First
baseman Pete Rose Jr. then followed with a
RBI double to right that scored pinch runner
Damian Rolls from first.
Ducks’ reliever Ben Grezlovski (4-2) picked
up the win, throwing a scoreless inning allowing only one hit. Patriots’
reliever Jason Ricardson (8-1) suffered the loss, allowing two runs on two
hits without recording an out. Ducks reliever Charlie Weatherby pitched a
scoreless ninth for his second save of the year.
With the loss the Patriots dropped to 17-20
in the second half and 57-50 overall on 2008 season while the Ducks improved
to 24-13 and 56-51.
