On Thursday, August 14, at approximately 11:25 am, Sergeant Mathew Wilson stopped a vehicle in the parking lot of McDonalds on Center Street after observing the vehicle make an illegal u-turn.  During the stop, the driver was unable to produce a driver’s license and identified himself as Bruce Magli.  When Sgt. Wilson entered this information into the National Crime Information Computer (NCIC), he learned that “Bruce Magli” was an alias of Steven Powers, age 41, of Sun Prairie, WI, who was wanted by the New Jersey State Parole Board for a parole violation stemming from a prior drug arrest.  Mr. Powers was also found to be wanted by the Suwannee County, Florida Sheriff’s Office for Violation of Probation stemming from a prior drug distribution charge as well as the Broward County, Florida Sheriff’s Office for Violation of Probation for a prior drug possession charge.  Sgt. Wilson later confirmed that Mr. “Magli” was indeed Steven Powers.

Passenger Jeffrey Powers, age 46, of Madison, WI was then found to be wanted out of the Hennepin County, MN Sheriff’s Office for Possession of Cocaine.  Although bail was set at $5,000.xx, Hennepin County advised that it would not extradite Jeffrey Powers back to Minnesota.

A search of the vehicle produced two and one-half (2.5) pounds of mushrooms, believed to be illegal psilocybin, one hundred (100) small squares believed to be “hits” of LSD, and a small amount of marijuana.  The “psilocybin” and the “LSD” may be imitation drugs and Sgt. Wilson is continuing his investigation in conjunction with Clinton Township detectives and the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office.  The evidence will be sent to the New Jersey State Police lab for analysis.

As a result, Sgt. Wilson arrested Steven Powers, Jeffrey Powers, and Janna Scudera, age 41, of Sun Prairie, WI.  Steven Powers was charged with Entering Into New Jersey While A Fugitive From Justice, 2nd Degree Possession of LSD with Intent To Distribute, 2nd Degree Possession of Psilocybin with Intent To Distribute, 3rd Degree Possession of an Imitation Controlled Dangerous Substance, 4th Degree Hindering Apprehension, Driving While Suspended, Illegal U-Turn, and Obstruction of Traffic.  He was later transported to the Hunterdon County Jail without bail on the warrants and with $10,000.xx bail on the local charges.

Jeffrey Powers and Janna Scudera were later released without charges.
