Although the New Jersey Historical Commission will receive a 19% overall reduction for the FY2009 fiscal year, it recently awarded the Hunterdon County Cultural & Heritage Commission $16,600 as General Operating Support in recognition of the county agency’s record of preserving history and advancing interest and awareness of local history.  The county agency will make $15,000 available as re-grants to local non-profit organizations and individuals.

History organizations only may apply for General Operating Support grants.  These are non-restricted, non-project oriented funds intended to support their on-going programs, services and operations.  Special Projects funding is available to organizations and individuals for a specific, history-related program or project.  Eligible categories include conservation of historical materials; editorial and publication projects; educational initiatives; exhibitions; media (films, radio, videotape, digital media); public programs; and research (including archaeological projects, oral history, and New Jersey and National Register of Historic Places nominations).

Guidelines and applications are currently available at the Hunterdon County Main Library on Route 12 and the Commission office, located at 3 Chorister Place, Flemington, and on-line at <www.co.hunterdon.nj.us/depts/c&h>.  The deadline to apply is 3 p.m. Monday, September 8.  Call the Commission office (908-788-1256) for further information, to request an application form, or to schedule an appointment for individual guidance.
