The Three-Time Atlantic League Champion Somerset Patriots have announced that Jim Frey and Don Zimmer will serve as the Honorary Managers for the 2008 Atlantic League All-Star Game at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Wednesday, July 16^th.

Frey will be the Honorary Manager for Sparky Lyle's Freedom Division All-Star team. Frey was Lyle's first manager in professional baseball when he was coming up in the Baltimore Orioles organization. Frey is a former Major League manager with the Kansas City Royals and the Chicago Cubs. He compiled a record of 323-287 as a manager and led the Kansas City Royals to the World Series in 1980 and the Cubs to the 1984 National League East Division Championship. Frey was named Manager of the Year in 1984.

Frey later became the Cubs General Manager and was the architect of their 1989 National League East Division Championship team. Currently Frey serves as the Vice Chairman of the Somerset Patriots, a position he has held since the team began play in the Atlantic League.

Zimmer will be the Honorary Manager for Dave LaPoint's Liberty Division All-Star team. Zimmer is a former Major League manager of the San Diego Padres, Boston Red Sox, Texas Rangers and Chicago Cubs. He also spent eight seasons as the New York Yankees Bench Coach under Joe Torre.

Zimmer compiled a record of 885-858 in his 13 seasons as a Major League manager. In 1989 he was the manager of the Cubs National League Division championship team, as well as being named the Manager of the Year. Zimmer has been a part of a Major League team for the past 35 years. Currently he serves as a senior advisor to the Tampa Bay Rays.

The 2008 Atlantic League All-Star Game will pit the very best players in the Freedom and Liberty Divisions, as voted on by the fans and those familiar with the Atlantic League, against each other in the traditional exhibition game the day after the Major League All-Star Game.

The Atlantic League All-Star Game will have several pre-game festivities including the Home Run Derby, an autograph session with all the All-Star players and coaches, live music, and many other activities.The All-Star Game will include giveaways for fans and entertainment from The ZOOperstars, BirdZerk, and a Post Game Fireworks Show unlike any seen in Central New Jersey.
